Just Married: Paul and Susan in Maui!

On Wednesday I had the pleasure of taking photos of the newlyweds Paul and Susan! We met up in Lahaina for some evening beach shots!

Paul and Susan have a really sweet story. They met through Paul's mother, who was coming to Susan for physical therapy. Paul would bring his mother to her appointment and Susan would listen as Paul's mom would speak to him in Greek and every other sentence she would hear her name interspersed with Greek words. Well, one thing led to another and I guess it's true what they say: Mother knows best!

We didn't get a full-on sunset, but I was loving the clouds in the sky; not to mention the perfect lighting!

Thank you Paul and Susan for choosing me to take your honeymoon photos! I loved hearing your love story and the play-by-play of your wedding! I would have loved to see that garter dance! Congratulations to you both and safe travels back to California!

The Lowes are in Maui!

This Sunday I had the pleasure of spending some time with the Lowe family as they vacationed here in Maui. Tonya has been coming to Maui her whole life (those lucky West Coast people--Hawaii is only a five hour flight!), but it was her husband Brian and daughter Kylie's first time to the island.

Kylie just turned one, so I'm going to warn you: it's going to get cute. Like, really really cute.

What I really appreciated about Tonya and Brian was how incredibly patient they were with Kylie. Kylie had never been in the sand before and she was shy to warm up to it. But Daddy Brian sat down with her in the sand and gently put it on her legs, letting her get used to the texture. Meanwhile, Momma Tonya got the pacifier and coaxed into putting on her happy face.
This was her initial reaction...
...And before we knew it, she was crawling and clapping!

While baby Kylie enjoyed the sand, we had .125 seconds to snap some pictures of Mom and Dad before she realized they weren't by her side.

There's something about dads and daughters that just gets me...
A big mahalo to the Lowes for letting me spend some time with your wonderful little family!

Just Maui'd: Hans + Katie are newlyweds!

Earlier this week I met up with the newly-weds Katie and Hans in Makena for some honeymoon photos! It was hot and sweaty at first, but we were rewarded at the end of the session with an absolutely amazing sunset!

Have you ever spoken to someone over the phone and felt like they're an old friend? This is exactly how it was with Katie for me! We spoke for several minutes to set up the session, but we also chatted about the wedding, Maui, and education (she's works in the schools like me!). I had not spoken with Hans; but when I met him, he is just the match for Katie that I would have imagined.

Mid-laugh! I love it!

Get ready for some sunset photos!

Oh Big Beach, you never fail to amaze me!

Wedding photos then honeymoon photos? What a great idea! Katie and Hans: I had so much fun with both of you! Your easy-going sense of humor and patience with each other makes for a perfect match. Be sure to enjoy those quiet, beautiful moments that only Maui, a glass of wine, and good company can provide. And most important of all: have fun on this amazing honeymoon!

Mahalo mahalo mahalo! And safe travels back to Virginia!

The Stones come to Maui!

On Sunday I had the pleasure of spending some time with the Stone Family. Though the reason for their visit was because of a destination wedding, they took advantage of their family time together and got some portraits done.

The Stone's are the kind of family you want to live next door to. Their kids are polite and fun-loving and Andrea and Matt are incredibly easy to talk to. We had a blast running up and down the beach (well, maybe the kids did--I'm not sure that Mom and Dad were sold on it), jumping off of lava rocks, swinging on branches, and hunting for crabs.

This picture makes my heart happy. Dads are so special to their daughters

Moms are special too :)

Crabs!

A big mahalo to the Stone family for letting me take your Maui family portraits! I had so much fun with you all (and especially with Bella and Brennan--they're a hoot)! Tell Brennan to that he's the best crab-catcher that I've met and tell Bella to keep working on that hair-flip! Have a great time at your friends' wedding and safe travels back to California!
